EXAMPLE OF A CITY DESCRIPTION

Guys, here you have an example of an essay where a city is described.

Introduction

In this essay I am going to describe my city. Madrid is the city where I have lived since I was very little. It is neither a huge city nor a tiny town. It is a medium-sized city.

Body

Regarding culture, Madrid is a really cultural city. It has extraordinary museums such as the Prado museum and the Sophia Queen museum. The most amazing painting that I have ever seen in the Sophia Queen museum is "El Guernica". You can not leave Spain if you have not seen it.
Besides, you can enjoy theatre plays in different theatres which are located in Gran via.

When it comes to typical Spanish food, you definitely have to visit a well-known street called: La latina. There, you will find plenty of restaurants to try delicious dishes such as calamari sandwich or paella. Madrid is also famous for the awesome square called: Plaza Mayor where you can go shopping, have a coffee outdoors or take a picture of yours next to the colorful façade of the building.

With regard to Madrid buildings, I can say that it is not a skyscraper-city, but there are 3 high skyscrapers which stand out in Madrid skyline.

Something really impressive you should visit if you come is the called: Torres Kio that are two twin towers located in the "Castellana". These towers are twisted and it looks like they are going to fall down what is a remarkable masterpiece of the capital.

Conclusion

To sum up I will just say that Madrid is an extraordinary city where you can do plenty of things and have a lot of fun with your family or friends.

VIDEO: RELATIVE CLAUSES

GRAMMAR UNIT 8: RELATIVE SENTENCES AND THE PASSIVE

RELATIVE SENTENCES

DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES (NO COMMAS)

NON DEFINING (BETWEEN COMMAS)

There are two types of relative clauses: defining and non-defining.
We are going to learn defining relative clauses.

A defining relative clause is used to identify the person or thing we are talking about:

Casvi school is the place where I learn English.
It was my birthday when I received plenty of gifts.
Rachel is the teacher who shouts at us every morning.
Tere is the teacher who used to wear red hair.
My mom is the person whose car is a Mercedes.
This is the English notebook that has its covers broken.
This is the pencil case which I use every time.

REMEMBER!!

We can omit the pronouns who/that when they refer to the object of the relative clause.
For instance:
• The flat that we rented is in the old town =The flat we rented is in the old town.
• I can´t find the box in which I put my books = I can´t find the box I put my books in.

THE PASSIVE

We form the passive voice with the verb to be + the past participle of the main verb. Passive is very common in English. When we want to give more importance and remark the action we use passive.

Present Passive: Verb to be in Present simple + Participe.

1. English is spoken in London. = Se habla inglés en Londres.
2. Nuts are grown in California. = Se cultivan nueces en California.
3. A lot of olive oil is produced in Spain. = Se produce mucho aceite de oliva en España.
4. Food is served hot in this school. = Se sirve comida caliente en este colegio.
Past Passive :Verb to be in Past simple + Participe.
1. “Don Quixote” was written by Cervantes.
2. “Las Meninas” was painted by Velázquez.
3. This present was brought by the postman yesterday.
4. This statue was sculpted by my mom.
